There hasn't been a single day in which I could sleep without having my head tormented with those very questions.<br /><br />It has been 20 days since I made the last post on this very blog. And since this day I didn't have a single night of sleep. I feel like I am dying inside. And I think it's time for you people to know the truth.<br /><br />As everyone knows, this blog was originally conceived back in<span style="font-weight: bold;"> 1986</span> in <span style="font-weight: bold;">Okene, Nigeria</span>, by two missionary priests, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Father Leylo and Father Alfred</span>.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_mbk_34tRAx0/Susge2_F6KI/AAAAAAAAAF8/pDqobnYNEBc/s1600-h/leylo.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_mbk_34tRAx0/Susge2_F6KI/AAAAAAAAAF8/pDqobnYNEBc/s200/leylo.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398444292861978786" border="0" /></a><span style="font-style: italic;">Father Leylo in Okene, 2005</span><br /></div><br />20 days ago, <span style="font-weight: bold;">10/10/09</span>, three masked man declaring to be <span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:130%;" >islamic fundamentalists </span>entered in our chapel, 20km north from Okene, and <span style="font-weight: bold;">shot five persons</span>, including Father Leylo.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Everyone died instantly </span>except, as a miracle, our beloved Priest. Originally it was written and recorded by Ottis Redding in 1965(you can check this version on the download file), and it's a pretty good version, but Aretha's one is just an untouchable classic gem.<br /><br />Anyway, there are some other pretty interesting covers of "Respect" here. There's garagerock, disco(there's always some disco, isn't it?), an epic rendition by the eighties band Dexy's Midnight Runners and even a version sung in the BASQUE idiom (euskara) called Errespetua. It doesn't make much sense, I know, but it's goddarn interesting.<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cSdFTVhFyyc&hl=pt-br&fs=1&"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cSdFTVhFyyc&hl=pt-br&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />1. The original version is by "? & The Mysterians" (yes, the name of the leadsinger is ?). On the video above you can check they performing it in 1998.<br /><br />They keyboard riff is one of the most catchy ever so it's no surprise the song was extensively covered by a whole lot of different bands. From the famous Strangles punky cover to Aretha Franklin's soul version.<br /><br />My favourite version is the hardrock/bluesy version by a band called Gerardo Manuel & El Humo. I had never heard of this guy before but they knock it off pretty well in an anthemic way.<br /><br />So, here they are, fifteen versions of ninety six tears.<br /><br /><span style="color: rgb(192, 192, 192);font-family:Arial;" ><small>1. They combined their fast, driving, punk sound to twelve classic rock songs from the 1960s. The band had always had an affection for the raw energy of early rock songs, even hiring the legendary Phil Spector to produce their 1980 album "End of the Century." Seventeen years after their first album, the band released an album containing nothing but covers of 1960s songs, giving it an appropriately wild title: "Acid Eaters."<br /><br />1."Journey to the Center of the Mind" – 2:52<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Amboy Dukes</span>)</span><br />2."Substitute" – 3:15<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Who</span>)</span><br />3."Out of Time" – 2:41<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Rolling Stones</span>)</span><br />4."The Shape of Things to Come" – 1:46<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by <span style="font-weight: bold;">Max Frost and the Troopers</span>)</span><br />5."Somebody to Love" – 2:31<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by <span style="font-weight: bold;">The Great Society</span>)</span><br />6."When I Was Young" – 3:16<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by<span style="font-weight: bold;"> The Animals</span>)</span><br />7."7 and 7 Is" – 1:50<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by <span style="font-weight: bold;">Love</span>)</span><br />8."My Back Pages" – 2:27<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by <span style="font-weight: bold;">Bob Dylan</span>)</span><br />9."Can't Seem to Make You Mine" – 2:42<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by<span style="font-weight: bold;"> The Seeds</span>)</span><br />10."Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" – 2:22<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by <span style="font-weight: bold;">Creedence Clearwater Revival</span>)</span><br />11."I Can't Control Myself"– 2:55<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by<span style="font-weight: bold;"> The Troggs</span>)</span><br />12."Surf City" – 2:26<br /><span style="font-size:78%;">(Original by<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Jan and Dean</span>)</span><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.4shared.com/file/137636995/925d3f66/Ramones_-_Acid_Eaters__1993_.html"><span style="font-size:130%;">Download </span></a><br /><a href="http://www.4shared.com/file/137636995/925d3f66/Ramones_-_Acid_Eaters__1993_.html"></a>(48mb)<br /></div>Godinezhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11748818983388768530noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6207045321277653278.post-11226720236551054632009-10-06T13:07:00.004-03:002009-10-06T14:11:13.386-03:00[Covers and Tribvtes IV] Jesvs Cristvs - Light My Fire<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/flOvM4Z355A&hl=pt-br&fs=1&"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/flOvM4Z355A&hl=pt-br&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />Obviously everyone has already heard that song more than a thousand times. Noel has been a follower of the site since its beginning back in 1997. Noel and Liam always kept close contact with the website. In 2002, Jesvs Cristvs was the first website to broadcast their hit single "The Hindu Times", even before mTV.com.<br /><br />Noel's message:<br /><embed src="http://www.odeo.com/flash/audio_player_standard_gray.swf" quality="high" allowscriptaccess="always" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars="valid_sample_rate=true&external_url=http://www.jesvscristvs.kit.net/noelgallagher.mp3" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" width="300" height="52"></embed><br /><br />Thanks a lot, mate!<br /><br />On an unrelated note, this is Bryan Ferry's (ex lead-singer from Roxy Music) album from 2007: Dylanesque. It comprises of eleven covers of Bob Dylan.<br /><br />Ferry is a pretty talented folk, and these versions are all really interesting. The album sold quite well back then and even scored a Top 10 in the UK and in Sweden(like someone would care about Sweden's top charts).<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></span>All tracks composed by Bob Dylan: <ol><li>"<span style="font-weight: bold;">Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues</span>" – 3:50</li><li>"<span style="font-weight: bold;">Simple Twist of Fate</span>" – 5:18</li><li>"Make You Feel My Love" – 3:22</li><li>"<span style="font-weight: bold;">The Times They Are a-Changin</span>'" – 3:40</li><li>"<span style="font-weight: bold;">All I Really Want to Do</span>" – 2:29</li><li>"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" – 6:13</li><li>"Positively Fourth Street" – 3:45</li><li>"If Not for You" – 2:40</li><li>"<span style="font-weight: bold;">Baby, Let Me Follow You Down</span>" – 2:13</li><li>"<span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mw-redirect">Gates of Eden</span>" – 5:12</li><li>"All Along the Watchtower" – 3:46</li></ol><a href="http://www.4shared.com/file/137903070/f24de5df/Bryan_Ferry_-_dylanesque.html">Download 60mb</a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6207045321277653278.post-45528632286473285382009-10-05T13:08:00.003-03:002009-10-05T15:40:36.026-03:00[Covers and Tribvtes II] - "Get Ready""<span style="font-weight: bold;">Get Ready</span>" is one of my favourite motown songs ever. Pepper tribute album in less than a week, this is how previsible this blog is. Anyway, this won't be a problem since we all love hearing what people do to the Beatles's songs.<br /><br />Big Daddy used to be a parody band from Los Angelos in the eighties. They were famous for playing well-known classics in 50's style. "When I'm Sixty Four" is now a doo-wop ballad. "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" is turned into rockabilly. "A Day in The Life" sounds like as if it were made by Buddy Holly. And I love it all.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Big Daddy performing their version of the title-track on a german tv show. You probably already know Tina as the mysterious-pretty-blonde-b<span style="font-weight: bold;">ass-player from the Talking Heads</span>. Frantz is also a former member of the Talking Heads, although you probably don't remember him.<br /><br />Tom Tom got really famous with the two big hits: <span style="font-weight: bold;">Wordy Rappinghood </span>and <span style="font-weight: bold;">Genius Of Love</span>. If you were a youngster in the early eighties, you probably will recall these two tunes.<br /><br />Oh, boy. Weren't those the best times? Dancing in those good old discothéques until dawn? Oh yeah. Fun times.<br /><br />Wordy Rappinghood is one of those songs you just can't stop listening to. Its chorus's lyrics might be one of the most poetic things ever written since the beginning of times:<br /><br />"Ramsamsam a ramsamsam<br />Goediekoediekoediekoedie ramsamsam<br />Ajkaja jippie ajkajee<br />Ahoe ahoe a rikitsjie"<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/53V7lt7H6m8&hl=pt-br&fs=1&"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/53V7lt7H6m8&hl=pt-br&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br /><ol><li>"<span style="font-weight: bold;">Wordy Rappinghood</span>" – 6:27</li><li>"<span style="font-weight: bold;">Genius of Love</span>" – 5:34</li><li>"Tom Tom Theme" – 1:24</li><li>"L'Elephant" – 4:51</li><li>"As Above, So Below" – 5:22</li><li>"Lorelei" – 5:05</li><li>"On, On, On On..." – 3:33</li><li>"Booming and Zooming" – 4:35</li><li>"Under the Boardwalk" – 5:46</li><li>"Lorelei" (Remix Version) – 6:17</li></ol><a href="http://www.4shared.com/file/137066700/27d231c7/tom_tom_club__1981__tom_tom_club__deluxe_edition_.html">Download 73mb</a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6207045321277653278.post-17932053334788179032009-10-02T23:14:00.002-03:002009-10-02T23:26:43.904-03:00Yoko Ono - Between My Head and Sky (2009)<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.noize.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/yokocover.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 452px; height: 422px;" src="http://www.noize.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/yokocover.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>When I was just a kid who thought Yoko Ono is no more than the "Woman who broke the Beatles apart", this one fellow came in and showed me how wrong I was.<br /><br />Very few people know how incredible this japanese lady is. Besides being a very well-known artist since early fifties (when John Lennon was still wearing diapers), and a very special musician, Yoko has already proved to be a wonderful and very humble person. Difficult qualities for musicians, these days.<br /><br />To record Between My Hand and Sky, Yoko regrouped with the Plastic Ono Band and Sean Lennon. The result is one of her more accesible albuns. Everyone refers to this album as a minor piece in the Beach Boys's catalog. As usual, I strongly disagree.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Holland is beautiful. And It's not because you can smoke marijuana and have sex in the parks, but, because pretty much every song here is very good.</span><br /><br />Sail on Sailor and Funky Pretty are the only Brian Wilson compositions on here, as far as I know. In 1973, Brian was still completely cuckoo and practically out of the band. It is funny, however, that my two favourite songs are his. Sail on Sailor is a gorgeous soul classic and Funky Pretty is the weirdest song on the album, and the catchiest too.<br /><br />Some call it the Beach Boys's progressive rock album. It certainly does sound a bit prog in some places(there's a long synth solo on Leaving This Town, what the hell), but I wouldn't go this far and call this prog. These are the Beach Boys maturing and making complex, although still gorgeous, songs.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wRaL6cjaAIM/SRBmDbaspFI/AAAAAAAAAGA/xTlXoldRfJ8/s320/1967+-+Brian+Wilson.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 168px; height: 198px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wRaL6cjaAIM/SRBmDbaspFI/AAAAAAAAAGA/xTlXoldRfJ8/s320/1967+-+Brian+Wilson.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">Brian Wilson having his favourite breakfast: The Beatles's Sgt. Undeservedly, in my opinion. I love how the band started making simple pop and blues songs. Where's the band who did "The End" and "When the Music is over" a couple years ago? Where's the band who's going to do "Riders on the storm" some years later?<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Tell All the People </span>and <span style="font-weight: bold;">Touch Me </span>are my favourites. The remaining songs offer more variety, from a latinesque and jazzy "Mami Gato" to a middle eastern tinged "Bloody Oil" powered by some deep bass work by Chris Wood to the soulful "New Planet" or "Queen Bee", which reminds me of the soundtrack to a 70's detective television show. MMW's cohort in musical exploration, guitar virtuoso Marc Ribot, adds flavor and texture to the album on a few tracks, as do Steven Bernstein and Briggan Krauss on horn, while the production was led by John King of the Dust Brothers.<br /><br /><strong>This album is an absolute must have for MMW fans and lovers of creative music</strong>.
