Respect was permanently written in the hall-of-fame of music in 1967 when Aretha Franklin recorded her wonderful version of the song. Originally it was written and recorded by Ottis Redding in 1965(you can check this version on the download file), and it's a pretty good version, but Aretha's one is just an untouchable classic gem.
Anyway, there are some other pretty interesting covers of "Respect" here. There's garagerock, disco(there's always some disco, isn't it?), an epic rendition by the eighties band Dexy's Midnight Runners and even a version sung in the BASQUE idiom (euskara) called Errespetua. It doesn't make much sense, I know, but it's goddarn interesting.

[Covers and Tribvtes II] - "Get Ready"
"Get Ready" is one of my favourite motown songs ever. Originally by Smokey Robinson, it was made famous by The Temptations(1966) and Rare Earth(1970). Both of these versions are in the download file below, together with other curious covers of the song: a britpop versio by the band ASH (1995), a corny disco remake by Carol Hitchcock (1987) and a crappy rnb version by Black Eyed Peas's Fergie(2006). And more.
1. Ash - Get Ready (2:51)
2. CAROL HITCHCOCK - GET READY (EARTH TO MOONBASE MIX) (8:17)
3. Fergie - Here I Come (3:21)
4. Rare Earth - Get Ready (2:46)
5. Smokey robinson - 05 - Get Ready (5:52)
6. Diana Ross and The Supremes - Get Ready (2:44)
7. The Temptations - Get ready (4:28)

Beach Boys - Holland (1973)

It took me a long time to start loving this album. Everyone refers to this album as a minor piece in the Beach Boys's catalog. As usual, I strongly disagree.
Holland is beautiful. And It's not because you can smoke marijuana and have sex in the parks, but, because pretty much every song here is very good.
Sail on Sailor and Funky Pretty are the only Brian Wilson compositions on here, as far as I know. In 1973, Brian was still completely cuckoo and practically out of the band. It is funny, however, that my two favourite songs are his. Sail on Sailor is a gorgeous soul classic and Funky Pretty is the weirdest song on the album, and the catchiest too.
Some call it the Beach Boys's progressive rock album. It certainly does sound a bit prog in some places(there's a long synth solo on Leaving This Town, what the hell), but I wouldn't go this far and call this prog. These are the Beach Boys maturing and making complex, although still gorgeous, songs.
Track listing:
1) Sail On Sailor;
2) Steamboat;
3) California Saga/Big Sur;
4) California Saga/The Beaks Of Eagles;
5) California Saga/California;
6) The Trader;
7) Leaving This Town;
8) Only With You;
9) Funky Pretty

King Funk (1969-1973)
Do you like groove? Do ya, punk?
That's the best funk compilation I've ever found to date. I found it by luck the other day on the internet, and it's completely fantastic.
This is real FUNK music, before disco came out and beat the shit out of it. It's got power and It's got SOUL(in the literal meaning of the word, these guys play with their heart).

Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra - Government Magic

Do you know Afrobeat? This term was coined back in the 70's in Africa, the style is probably the better thing Africa has ever created recently. It combines FUNK and JAZZ with african tribal rhytms and the result is an hypnotic dancing groove that will make your mind blow.
Antibalas is a great afrobeat contemporary band from the USA. The guys take all those african influences(specially Fela Kuti) and give it an americanized charm.
This video will show a bit of how is their sound:

Jorge Ben - Africa Brasil
One of the best brazilian albuns, surely one TOP10 record for my beloved country.
Jorge Ben mix samba with rock, funk with african music, mysticism with umbanda, and everything he could possibly imagine at the time. The result is such a colorful and fantastic experience that even Rod Stewart(yes, THAT Rod Stewart) has plagiarized one of his songs("Taj Mahal") in his song "Da Ya Think Im Sexy". As a result of the lawsuit, Stewart agreed to donate all his royalties from the song to UNICEF.
If you're interested in discovering Brazilian music, this record is a perfect start.
Setlist:
1 - Ponta de Lança Africano (Umbabarauma)
2 - Hermes Trismegisto Escreveu
3 - O Filósofo
4 - Meus Filhos Meu Tesouro
5 - O Plebeu
6 - Taj Mahal
7 - Xica da Silva
8 - A História de Jorge
9 - Camisa 10 da Gávea
10 - Cavaleiro do Cavalo Imaculado
11 - Africa Brasil (Zumbi)
